Bachelor of Pharmacy

Bachelor of Pharmacy is a four-year course introduced at KIST medical College under Institute of Medicine (IOM). B.Pharm is a four-year course under Tribhuvan University (TU). Nine pharmacy colleges offers Bachelor of Pharmacy (Bpharm) course with affiliation from Tribhuvan University.

Bachelor of Pharmacy course is divided into four academic years, concentrating mainly on professional pharmacy courses and the supplementary subjects which are essential for the professional pharmacy courses.

Goal of Program

The goal of the program is to produce qualified pharmacists who could provide pharmaceutical services in the capacity of:

  • community and hospital pharmacists
  • specialists in technology and research
  • managers of pharmaceutical services
  • specialists in various scientific aspects of pharmacy

Curriculum Outline

The basic professional education will enable the graduates to demonstrate a broad understanding of the scientific principles and techniques of the pharmaceutical sciences. At the same time, it will also enable them to continue their studies to undertake postgraduate training and research. The program has been inspired by the values that pharmacists should be the vital members of the health care team and they will hold job either in government or private sector in important areas such as community pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, regulatory control and drug management, pharmaceutical industry, quality assurance, academic activities, training activities and research.

Infrasturcture

KIST has the entire basic infrastructure, such as lecture halls with audio-visual aid, preclinical dental lab, and functioning clinical departments with electronic dental chairs, as per the requirement of the Nepal Medical Council. The dental curriculum reflects the four essential components of competency that are needed for a BDS graduate.

They are:
Competent to provide Curative services.
Competent to provide Preventive services.
Competent to work as a manager.
Competent to handle medico-legal problems.

4 and half years plus one year of rotating internship.

Curriculum Outline

The duration of the BDS course is four and half years, comprising of the first, second, and final phases.

The first phase is of two year’s duration during which period anatomy; physiology, biochemistry, microbiology; pathology, and pharmacology are taught as integrated basic medical science subjects. Dental subjects include Dental Materials Science, Oral Biology, Community dentistry, Pre-clinical Prosthodontics & Preclinical Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Pre-clinical Orthodontics & Pedodontics.

The second phase is of one year during which includes major clinical teaching and postings. All dental subjects are taught along with General Medicine, General Surgery including Anesthesiology. The final phase comprises of one and half year duration and during this period clinical posting in Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Orthodontics, Oral and maxillofacial Surgery, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Community Dentistry is conducted. University Final Exams are conducted twice during this phase.

Eligibility criteria for Bachelor of Pharmacy Tribhuvan University (TU)

  • Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA 2.4 OR
  • Secured the percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (eg. A-Level) with different grading system OR
  • Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate/Diploma(General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) with at least 50% aggregate in total marks AND
  • Registered in Nepal Health Professional Council or Nepal Pharmacy Council or Nepal Ayurveda Council as per related educational program.
  • Selection Procedure

    • In order to pass the integrated admission process, a minimum of 50 percent marks should be obtained.
    • There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.
