BDS Program
The dental department of KIST Medical College is one of the best departments in the nation with a sufficient number of specialists working as full-time faculty.
The department is involved in a rich amalgamation of scientific inquiry and comprehensive dental care service. As the department has three major responsibilities, it offers quality dental care services with utmost comfort to the patients, a rich amalgamation of scientific inquiry and improvement of the dental care service and educate the students for efficient management of the patient and design a good treatment plan utilizing the state-of-the-art material and techniques. The department is also concerned with the promotion of public health.
KISTMC plans to start its own Postgraduate program (MDS) in the near future so the national needs for dental human resources are met in the field of dentistry.
Infrasturctur
KIST has the entire basic infrastructure, such as lecture halls with audio-visual aid, preclinical dental lab, and functioning clinical departments with electronic dental chairs, as per the requirement of the Nepal Medical Council. The dental curriculum reflects the four essential components of competency that are needed for a BDS graduate.

Curriculum Outline
The duration of the BDS course is four and half years, comprising of the first, second, and final phases.
The first phase is of two year’s duration during which period anatomy; physiology, biochemistry, microbiology; pathology, and pharmacology are taught as integrated basic medical science subjects. Dental subjects include Dental Materials Science, Oral Biology, Community dentistry, Pre-clinical Prosthodontics & Preclinical Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Pre-clinical Orthodontics & Pedodontics.
The second phase is of one year during which includes major clinical teaching and postings. All dental subjects are taught along with General Medicine, General Surgery including Anesthesiology. The final phase comprises of one and half year duration and during this period clinical posting in Prosthodontics, Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics, Orthodontics, Oral and maxillofacial Surgery, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Community Dentistry is conducted. University Final Exams are conducted twice during this phase.
Eligibility criteria for BDS Tribhuvan University (TU)
I. Passed 10+2 Science (Biology Group) or Equivalent securing at least 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with 50% aggregate in total marks OR Secured at least C+ grade separately in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least C grade in remaining individual subjects along with GPA 2.4 OR Secured the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (A-Level) with different grading system.
Selection Procedure
Merit list of Medical Education Common Entrance Examination (MECEE) for both Nepali and foreign candidates.
